Drawing inspiration from the low folding tables we grew up with in Asian households, we wanted to design a modern version with a simple locking mechanism. After months of brainstorming, we realized that these toggle clamps which are a favorite in the shop for jigs and fixtures could satisfy the needed function. They are mounted on a horizontal rail underneath which doubles as a handle for easy transport.

For this fourth iteration, we turned the legs and changed the joinery style from a bridle joint to a wedged thru tenon. This one is built out of white oak with an oil finish. The top is made from shop sawn veneer laid onto some extra plywood we had in the shop. The “breadboard” ends and sides are solid white oak, as well as the legs and handle.
